Sri Lankan parliament to vote on second reading of budget today

The Sri Lankan parliament will vote on the second reading of the 2011 budget proposals presented by the government today. The second reading vote is to be taken at 6 p.m.

The main opposition United National Party (UNP) and the Marxist Democratic National Alliance (DNA) have already announced that they would vote against the budget.

The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) however, is yet to decide on its stance on the budget. According to TNA sources, a decision would be made at today's group meeting.

The Committee Stage of the budget will commence tomorrow (30) and continue till December 10.
