Sri Lankan court postpones Hicorp case pending Supreme Court verdict on court martial

A Sri Lankan court today decided to postpone the hearing of the Hicorp arms fraud case until the Supreme Court determination on the legitimacy of former Army Commander's court-martial is delivered.

The Colombo High Court has decided to postpone the Hicorp hearings pending the Supreme Court verdict on whether the court-martial against former Army Commander and DNA Leader Sarath Fonseka is a recognized court under the Constitution.

Colombo High Court judge Sunil Rajapaksa has decided to postpone the hearings of the case till January 14 next year.

The Supreme Court is to decide if Fonseka's court martial is recognized according to the Constitution when it takes up the matter on December 6.

Fonseka was found guilty by a court martial of four charges related to alleged irregularities in military procurements during his tenure as Army Chief. He is currently serving a 30-month rigorous prison sentence.
